Meet Mr. Grounds: "Hello everyone! My name is Shawn Grounds, and I am thrilled to join Westwood High School as a Math teacher. This will be my sixth year in education and my first year teaching high school. I attended the University of Texas here in Austin for my undergraduate degree and prior to teaching I worked in the technology industry in Silicon Valley and New York City. I look forward to meeting everyone and becoming a part of the team!"

Meet Ms. Pettijohn: "My name is Josie Pettijohn and I've spent time coaching and teaching during my summers in between my college years at Austin College in Sherman, Texas. I'll be teaching Algebra 1 and 2 as well as serving as an assistant coach for volleyball. I'm excited to be here!"

Meet Nurse Ho: "Hi Warriors! I'm thrilled to join the Westwood community as your new School Nurse! I've been a Registered Nurse for 10 years, with this being my 7th year specializing in school nursing. I'm a proud UT Austin Alumna, having earned both my bachelor's and master's degrees there. My background also includes hospital, clinic, and pediatric private duty nursing. My husband and I have two kids, including a new RRISD student this year. Looking forward to meeting you all and serving this community!"

Meet Mr. Hughes: "This is my 12th year teaching, 13th year coaching football. I graduated from the University of Mississippi in 2014. I am excited to be back at Westwood and will be teaching World Geography and coaching this year."

Meet Mr. Warner: "Hello, Westwood! This is my 14th year in education. I grew up in West Virginia, but have lived in Rockdale, TX for 20 years. I will be teaching Advanced English II. I am a proud graduate of Concordia University of Texas. Woosh!"

Meet Ms. Ramdhanny: "Hi everyone! My name is Gabi Ramdhanny, and I’m excited to be joining the team! This will be my third year in education. I graduated from the University of North Texas (Go Mean Green!!) This year, I’ll be teaching English I. Outside of the classroom, I’m a huge sports fan and love keeping up with all things sports. I’m excited to be part of the community, meet everyone, and can’t wait to have a great school year!"

Meet Ms. Mendez: "Hello! My name is Courtney Mendez, and I am excited to be rejoining Westwood High School as a Health Science teacher. I have six years of experience in education, teaching both Health Science and Science courses while also coaching cheerleading. I graduated from Texas A&M University with a BS in Kinesiology. Before teaching, I worked in an ER and a medical office, which fueled my passion for healthcare and education. I love creating hands-on, engaging learning experiences that help students discover career opportunities in the medical field and build confidence in their abilities. I am thrilled to be returning to the Westwood community and look forward to getting to know my students, collaborating with families, and making this a fantastic school year!"

Meet Mr. Scott: "My name is Darnell Scott Jr, and I am thrilled to continue my career in the Westwood High School community. This will be my 5th year in education and most recently I served as the Boys Coordinator at Grisham Middle School. I will be teaching Biology and serving as Assistant Coach in Football, Basketball and Softball. I am a RRISD alumni and I graduated college from Stephen F. Austin University. I am excited to be a Westwood Warrior!!"

Meet Mrs. Klatt: "This will be my 25th year teaching and coaching. I grew up in New Braunfels and went to school at UT-Austin. I will be teaching English 4 and Advanced English 2. I am also the head softball coach and an assistant volleyball coach."

Meet SMSgt Hughes: "Hi Westwood! My name is Rachel Hughes and I am so excited to join this incredible community as an AFJROTC Instructor. After 22 years of service in the Air Force, I transitioned into education four years ago and it has been a deeply rewarding journey. My daughter and I are relocating from Louisiana and we are thrilled to make the Austin area our new home, especially since my daughter will be attending Baylor University this fall! I’m honored to start this next chapter with you all and look forward to an amazing school year ahead."

Meet Ms. Norbraten: "Hello everyone! My name is Naomi Norbraten, and I am thrilled to join Westwood High School as a Chemistry teacher. This will be my second year in education and my first year teaching high school. I grew up on my grandparents' farm in Georgia where I had my first chemistry lessons learning to can tomatoes and fertilize the garden. Before teaching, I studied Earth and Planetary Sciences at Yale University in Connecticut. I'm so excited to join this amazing community and run some experiments in the classroom!"

Meet Ms. Joiner: "My name is Jacleen Joiner and I am excited to join the Westwood High School community! I am originally from Indiana where I graduated from Indiana University. Prior to moving to Austin, I taught high school English for 10 years. This will be my third year in RRISD. I previously taught 8th grade ELA at Ridgeview Middle School. I'm looking forward to getting to know the students, families, and staff of the Westwood community! It is going to be an awesome year."

Meet Ms. Xie: "Hello Westwood Warriors! My name is Amelia Xie and I am excited to join the Foreign Languages Department! I graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Languages and Cultures (concentration in Chinese Area Studies) and a minor in Arts Entrepreneurship. This year will be my 8th year as a Chinese teacher, and 5th year as an assistant Robotics Coach. I look forward to meeting you!"

Meet Ms. Hicks: "Hello Algebros! My name is Lindsay Hicks, and I will be teaching Algebra I and Algebraic Reasoning. I graduated from Baylor and have taught for four years. Teaching is my passion, but some of my other interests include art, reading, hiking, yoga, watching football and basketball (Go Mavs and Lions!), road trips, anime, and cuddling with my cat (Zuko). I am beyond excited to be a part of the Westwood family!"

Meet Coach Klatt: "Hello Westwood! The 2026-2027 school year will be my 30th in public education. As a Physical Educator, I've served students and student-athletes in many different capacities during my career (i.e. PE Teacher, Athletic Coach, Strength & Conditioning Director, and as an Athletic Administrator). I earned both my B.A. (Criminology-Military Science) and M.A. (Physical Education-Teaching & Coaching) from the University of Northern Iowa. I will teach Physical Education while also serving as an Assistant Football and Assistant Boys Basketball Coach. My family and I are excited to become a part of and invest in such a GREAT school-community!"
