Harvey Relief Efforts

Faculty and students at Westwood High School have been busy reaching out to our fellow Texan families who are surviving the impact of Hurricane Harvey.

In the week following Hurricane Harvey, the Westwood High School community collected a generous supply of essential items for survivors and rescue workers. Westwood HS is currently coordinating several efforts across the school campus, primarily organized by Westwood teacher Vicky Tarver. “This effort, as you all realize, isn’t over. It’s going to be months and months. We will continue to collect,” Tarver stated. Westwood is currently collecting the following items:

  • Work gloves (cotton, leather, cotton with leather palm)
  • dish washing gloves
  • scrub brushes
  • dust masks
  • scouring pads (not stainless steel or any with soap)
  • Handiwipes
  • sponges (not cellulose due to mold issues)
  • 33-45 gal trash bags
  • dish soap
  • insect repellent spray
  • air freshener
  • 16 oz. liquid cleaner that can be mixed with water (no spray cleaners)

Monetary donations will also be accepted for the purchase of supplies. You can bring donations to the main office at Westwood High School. If you would like more information please contact Vicky Tarver. Thanks in advance to our generous community.
