What’s Happening

What is the Excellence Fund?
Quite simply the Excellence Fund is the WHS Booster Club for Academics. Begun
in 1995, the Excellence Fund helps offset budget cuts to the academic programs. Its sole purpose is to help maintain the academic excellence your student enjoys at WHS.Every dollar raised by the Excellence Fund stays on the WHS campus. Click here for form

Who benefits from it?
YOUR student benefits from the Excellence Fund. Each year, WHS teachers submit requests for materials and equipment to aid in academic instruction. The Site-Based Advisory Committee disburses the funds to fill those teacher requests according to the goals and priorities established by the committee. The Excellence Fund has made substantial contributions over the years to almost every academic department, to the Westwood Library, and to help upgrade technology.

Who contributes to the Excellence Fund?
Parents, teachers, school organizations, and members of the Westwood business
community. Look for the Westwood Excellence Fund plaque in the Hall of Honor for the list of the hundreds of specific names who have contributed over the past twenty years.

How can I help the Excellence Fund?
Fill out the form and send it in with your contribution.

Westwood First Day Flyers will be electronic again this year – Every flyer that you would typically receive from Westwood will be placed in this shared folder for everyone to access.  Westwood HS 1st Day Flyers.
Items that you can find in the First Day Flyers folder will include Homecoming Mum Order Forms, Yearbook Order Forms, Excellence Fund Donation, PTSA Membership Info and much more.  We are adding to this every day so please check back during the first week of school for the most updated information and flyers. We hope having these forms accessible online will allow you to access them as needed and not require you to complete them all on the first night of school.

School Supplies – We have created some school supply lists for some subject areas and are located in the first day flyers folder above. While teachers may still have specific requests for their individual classes, we hope this will help you acquire the basic supplies you need for the first day of school.  We hope to add more classes to the school supply list after teachers return in August.  So please check this folder again later in August.

Late Start Bell Schedule Update

A change has been made to our bell schedule for the upcoming school year. Last spring the Texas Legislature passed new laws into the Texas Education Code. The Texas Education Code is the set of laws which govern the Texas public education system. One of the laws that will most notably impact Westwood High School is Texas Education Code (TEC) §25.081 which now requires schools to meet 75,600 instructional minutes per school year in lieu of the former law which required schools to meet for a minimum number of days. Therefore, we will no longer be allowed to run our weekly late start schedule as doing so would put Westwood under the required 75,600 instructional minutes for the school year. Furthermore, TEC §25.082 defines the “instructional day” as seven hours (420 minutes). Therefore we will start our school day at 9:05 a.m. and end at 4:15 p.m. Please note that this is a change from years past.

We appreciate your understanding and flexibility concerning all of the changes occurring this school year. I am aware that our students are set to undergo several changes to include a new principal, a building under construction, the loss of student parking and altered bell schedules. I am confident that our students will rise to meet any and all challenges that these changes present. I want to assure you that our staff is here to support you and your child(ren) in any way that you may need.

Traffic Pattern Update: Parents, due to construction
and the added portables the student drop-off and
pick-up routes have been updated to help ease
